The Annual Empire State Cup youth hockey tournament, produced by MYHockey Tournaments, is set to take place this weekend at Bill Gray’s Regional Iceplex and will bring in over 2,000 ice hockey players and family members into Monroe County. In total, 63 teams will compete in the three-day event, representing CT, DE, FL, MD, PA, NJ, NY and the province of Ontario, Canada.
Based on the Destinations International Economic Impact Calculator, it is estimated that the Empire State Cup will generate $925,806 in direct visitor spending and $619,806 in indirect spending, for a total economic impact to Monroe County of $1,574,837. To date, the Empire State Cup is the tenth tournament in the Iceplex’s hockey tournament season, which features 20 large-scale events that will take place through June of 2023. Thus far, tournaments hosted at the Iceplex have generated over $12 million in economic impact and 13,464 contracted hotel room nights. “Building relationships with key tournament organizers in the hockey industry continues to help us not only grow as a facility, but as a community,” said Chris Woodworth, Executive Director of the Iceplex. “Over the course of the year, the Iceplex host’s six annual MYHockey Tournaments.
